All grown up

One week.  Just one week is all the time I had to photograph these baby birds and then they were off.  I did say my good-byes before they left since I had a feeling the time was coming.  It would have been fun to see the process of them leaving the nest.  Did Momma kick them out?  Or did one of the little birds wiggle a little too much and, oops, one of them fell out and instinct took over?  The mystery of the process.

Baby Birds

Always have your camera with you!  You never know what opportunities will present themselves to you.  It has been at least ten years, if not fifteen since I have been this close to a bird’s nest with babies in it.  Last time it was a hummingbird nest at eye level, only inches away from the path!  My photography skills (equipment, knowledge, creativity and patience!) were such that I only captured blurry shots and discovered that when I received the prints back after processing (yes, the good old days of film only).

Time changes some things!  I must say, I am pretty excited to have captured these photos.  Enjoy!

I love…

What do you love to do?  How long has it been since you have done that?

I love being with people, being active, being outdoors, exploring new things, breathing, soaking it in, pushing my body a little harder than normal, taking pictures, putting the camera away, being fully there, experiencing the adventure, looking all around me, blazing a trail, climbing over rocks, up to the top of the waterfall, making my own path.

Those are all things that make me happy, that stir my spirit, that make me alive.  It is too easy to get stuck in the work/task mode and put off time for ourselves. Reality is: Life is short, we are not promised tomorrow and if you take the time to refresh yourself you will enjoy life more!  I invite you to remember, to recall those things that bring life and joy to you (and then go do those things)!  Leave me a comment.  I’d love to know what makes you come alive.

A few snaps from the weekend before I put my camera away and just climbed!!! Thanks Chanelle for picking a great hike!

Washington Beauty – photos from the journey

So it all started about a year ago when a friend from South Carolina (but I met her in Alaska) moved to Washington.  Since Washington is so much closer to me than both Alaska and South Carolina (and airfare cheaper) it was obvious that I should go visit her.  Well….a year passed and we kept talking about it but it never happened.  Then we set a tentative date in July for me to go up. Then that didn’t happen.

Enter Marc, Esther and Lucas (from my previous post) who were going to come out to northern California from Missouri for a vacation this summer.  Well obviously since northern California is closer than Missouri (and airfare cheaper) I was going to go visit them on their vacation.  Well…plans changed a bit and they decided to go to Washington.  Perfect!  I could visit two sets of friends in one trip and introduce them and clearly it was a great plan.  Then….Marc and Esther decided to head to the opposite coast and visit Florida instead.  Alas, I decided that it was time I went to Washington even if they changed their plan.  It would have been awesome to see them, but we are saving up for a fabulous birthday get together next summer when Esther and I both turn 30!

I had a great time on the coast of Washington just relaxing and enjoying being in a small town where life runs at a much slower pace.  One evening we took a little drive just to enjoy the beauty of it all.  So many places reminded me of Alaska (and I even saw a lot of Fireweed!!!).  Enjoy the photos:

Sunday Hike – Orange County Hiking Photos

For those of you who don’t know me very well, here is a little secret:  I love to be outside and I love to be engaged in some sort of physical exercise while outside (unless I am at the beach watching the surfers, then I am quite content to just be).  So I was feeling the need to get some exercise this afternoon and went for a little hike…nothing super brutal, but enough to get my heart pumping pretty good.  I grabbed my old point and shoot camera in case there was a good sunset and I did take a few snapshots….   (psst…you should get outside!)
